The impact of SP1 on the Windows 7 client operating system is considered to be minimal. Included changes are expected to address minor usability issues in specific scenarios, as outlined in this document. While Microsoft always recommends that users deploy the latest service pack as quickly as possible in order to maintain the best levels of support, security and user experience, we are strongly recommending to customers and partners that deployment of SP1 should not be considered a blocking issue for the adoption of Windows 7.  In other words, organizations do not need to wait for SP1 to begin receiving the value of Windows 7 today as we don’t anticipate the SP1 for Windows 7 to be substantial.

Lachlan Star boosts JORC Resource to 936,000 gold ounces at CMD

Lachlan Star (ASX: LSA) now has a 936,000 gold ounce JORC Resource at the CMD Gold Mine in Chile, estimated by Coffey Mining, with the potential to increase in the short term with resource statements for other projects currently pending.

The total exploration targets at CMD are currently between 600,000 and 900,000 gold ounces, which is in addition to the JORC Resource.

It must be remembered Lachlan has only owned the CMD mine for just over a month, and is looking to increase gold production in the short term.

CMD is an open pit heap leach gold mine that commenced production in 1995 and has produced around 830,000 gold ounces.

Forecast production is 9,000 gold ounces for the March quarter 2011, increasing to 12,000 gold ounces for the June quarter.

Of major importance for the ability to ramp up production, is the underutilised 8 million tonne per year production facility, which is currently running at just one third capacity.

The project is well positioned adjacent to Teck's massive Andacollo mine which hosts resources of; 535 million tonnes grading 0.37% copper and 0.12g/t gold, providing prospective copper exploration upside in the region.

Lachlan is also developing a plan for an intermediate pit in the central area of the Las Loas project, which will accelerate ore production and reduce the stripping ratio over the next 6 months

Silver Lake Resources gold inventory now tops 3 million ounces

Silver Lake Resources (ASX: SLR) is closing in on the company's 5 million gold ounce resource target, with the latest 17% JORC Resource boost to 3 million gold ounces.

The 17% increase is over the June 2010 inventory, with a new resource upgrade forecast for mid-2011.

The upgrades are expected to keep on coming for Silver Lake, as not all the latest drilling success has been included in this upgrade.

Mount Monger has a total resource of 1.3 million gold ounces, with Murchison 1.5 million gold ounces.

Silver Lake’s strategy is to develop large production centres at Mount Monger and Murchison, with multiple mines at each centre.

The Mount Monger Operation contains the Daisy Milano and Daisy East underground mines, along with the Costello open pit, located 50 kilometres from Kalgoorlie.

Silver Lake said Mount Monger has additional multi mine potential underpinned by emerging open pit production from Magic, Wombola Dam and Wombola Pit deposits.

Added to this is the potential for near term production sources from the Rosemary and Haoma lodes.

Gold ore from Mount Monger is transported to Silver Lake’s 600,000 tonne per year Lakewood Gold Processing Facility located, 5 kilometres from Kalgoorlie and 45 kilometres from the Daisy Milano mine.

At Murchison, ongoing exploration is focusing on extending current resources that have previously been constrained by limited drilling, particularly below 100 metres

Mutiny Gold 94% boost in Measured Resource to 130,000 gold ounces at Deflector

Measured gold ounces at the Mutiny Gold (ASX: MYG) Deflector deposit have increased to 130,000 ounces, up from 67,000, along with a boost in grade.

Mutiny now has; 930,000 tonnes at 4.3 grams per tonne (g/t) for 130,000 ounces, up from 535,000 tonnes at 3.9g/t for 67,000 ounces.

Deflector, part of the Gullewa Gold Project, now has a total resource of; 590,000 gold ounces which besides the 130,000 Measured, has 100,000 ounces Indicated and 350,000 ounces Inferred.

 

Based on the current gold price of US$1360 an ounce, the in-situ value of the Measured resource alone is US$177 million.

The increase in Measured resources will underpin the Feasibility Study, which will commence next month, with these latest results included within the planned open pit.

A Scoping Study is also underway, with results anticipated to be delivered by the company in mid-February.

Drilling is set to continue along strike at Deflector in the second half of January, to test high grade drill intersections identified in earlier drilling.

Mutiny said this upgrade of a significant portion of the Indicated Resource to the higher confidence category of Measured Resource has met the company’s objectives, and confirms Deflector as a significant deposit and completes an important development step.

Importantly, at Gullewa, infrastructure is already in place which includes a 300kt pa mill, camp, offices, power plant and other general required facilities.

Gold production is forecast by Mutiny to begin in 2012 from Gullewa.

Mutiny also owns the White Well project with an early resource of 91,000 ounces of high grade gold, that could be processed at Gullewa.

Earlier in the month the Wall Street research firm RB Milestone Group placed a price target of $0.41 in Mutiny.

Dampier Gold confirms new gold at Plutonic Dome

Dampier Gold (ASX: DAU) has confirmed a new zone of gold at the Budgie prospect, part of the Plutonic Dome project, with results from 14 of 39 holes received.

Highlights from the Budgie prospect included:

- 19 metres at 2.46 grams per tonne (g/t) gold from 109 metres, including, 8 metres at 4.75g/t gold; and

- 10 metres at 3.57g/t gold from 70 metres, including, 4 metres at 6.07g/t gold.

Highlights from the K2-K3 prospect included:

- 10 metres at 3.24g/t gold from 79 metres, including, 4 metres at 6.22g/t gold.

More drilling at Plutonic is planned for March 2011.

Dampier acquired Plutonic from Barrick Gold (TSE: ABX), which covers the majority of the Plutonic Greenstone Belt, excluding Barrick’s underground mining and processing operation.

Dampier’s project area produced around 580,000 gold ounces from 40 open pits in a generally low gold price environment between 1990 and 2005.

The project currently contains a Probable Ore Reserve of 35,000 gold ounces and a Mineral Resource of around 434,000 gold ounce

Gold and Inflation

As a Financial Consultant with more than 20+ years experience I can tell you that inflation is a double edged sword. First, let's look at the pros:


If I buy a house for $200,000 and inflation is 10%, it makes my mortgage of $200,000 feel like $100,000 in less than 7.2 years. Thus debtors benefit as long as they have a fixed rate of interest that is less than the rate of inflation...(Please see my calculators at http://www.drocktonmortgage1.com). The same thing holds true for other debt on a fixed rate.

Inflation adversely effects the stock and bond market but will positively influence the foreign currency market and lead to dramatic gains in gold and silver (click here to learn more).

In fact, gold has averaged close to 30% return over the past 7 years and is great for IRA rollovers! When one horse is dying another is finding new life.

Money can also be made in the futures market in any commodity (gold, gold options, gold futures, oil, gas, wheat etc.,) during an inflationary cycle.

Now for the down-side:

Inflation will kill your 401K, State Retirement Plan, bonds, savings bonds and any other cash investments because it forces interest rates to go higher. New bonds are in competition with the existing ones that pay a lower rate of interest in your portfolio. Thus, higher paying bonds cause yours to loose value. Again, you are better off with gold bullion or gold bullion coins.

Wages rarely keep up with inflation and most people are not sophisticated enough financially to reap the benefits. Thus, 99% will be on the losing end. Among these are Farmers that are selling into the futures markets at a guaranteed price, builders that sell at a fixed price or anyone else that cannot provide immediate delivery of a product or service. On the other hand gold options and gold futures are a great hedge against inflation no matter what you produce.

As production costs increase, it cuts into profits and leads to cost-cutting at the expense of the consumer who is very "price sensitive" but not necessarily "quality sensitive". Thus the weakening dollar continues to lose purchasing power. Saving gold makes far more sense than saving dollars.

Inflation is a double edged sword. As long as you know which side will cut you, you can actually benefit from it. Sadly, though, the average individual will never realize those benefits with variable rates on their consumer debt; food and housing expenses; transportation costs; etc...

Gold is the logical hedge against inflation:

Small investors can purchase 1/10 of an ounce gold bullion coins. Every working family in America should be setting aside 10-15% of their income as savings. If everyone did this, it would play a positive role in financially stabilizing the family. With 70% of divorces resulting from financial stress, gold would also help stabilize relationships.

Since divorce has such a huge impact and cost to society at large, it would be in everybody's best interests to promote saving gold. To be effective, savings and investments need to be taught at the high-school level. A Mandatory section on buying gold should also be included.

For those not willing to wait on the politicians, some families have found that setting aside some time, one day a week, can be very beneficial for teachings about gold and other investments. Discussing family finances before they reach crisis levels could play a major role in preserving our families. Planning for crisis through saving gold and gold bullion coins should be an important part of that training.

Retirement plans should include a mandatory precious metals component for those that desire to invest in gold. Not in gold mines or gold resellers, but actual investment in the metal itself.
